Since the success of the Shopaholic series, there has been a film made, Confessions of a Shopaholic, which combines the storylines of The Secret Dreamworld of a Shopaholic and Shopaholic Abroad, which starred Isla Fisher as the titular Shopaholic. The Secret Dreamworld of a Shopaholic book became a huge international hit, but Wickham managed to keep the fact that she and Kinsella were one and the same for three years. In 2000, Wickham, decided to write the first book in her Shopaholic series, The Secret Dreamworld of a Shopaholic (or Confessions of a Shopaholic), under the pen name Sophie Kinsella, which is a combination of her middle name and her mother’s maiden name. There would be seven books in total released under the name Madeleine Wickham, before Sophie Kinsella became Wickham’s pen name of choice. The Tennis Party was re-released in 2011 as 40-Love due to the success of Kinsella at that time, but also because the book is such a good read. As far as debut novels, the book was a success, getting into the bestsellers charts and being lauded by critics. It was while working as a financial journalist that she wrote her first novel, The Tennis Party, at the age of 24, which was released under her married name, Madeleine Wickham. However, after a year, she changed her degree to PPE – a combination of Philosophy, Politics and Economics – a change which helped her gain a job as a finance writer, as her understanding of economics proved invaluable. After leaving high school, Kinsella went to study music New College, Oxford, as she was an adept pianist and violinist. The author best known as Sophie Kinsella was born Madeleine Sophie Townley in London in 1969, the eldest of three girls. Together, the couple has five children (one daughter and four sons) after getting married in 1991. While at Oxford, she met Henry Wickham (who was the headmaster of Lockers Park boys prep school) he manages her affairs in business.

This novel (“The Tennis Party”) would be hailed by everyone and make her a household name, not to mention a bestseller. Before becoming a novelist, she worked as a financial journalist, and it was here that she began working on her first novel. She is the oldest child of three daughters, all of whom write fiction. The name Sophie Kinsella is a combination of her mother’s maiden name (Kinsella) and her own middle name (Sophie). Madeleine Sophie Wickham (maiden name is Townley) was born December 12, 1969, she writes under the pen name of Sophie Kinsella and under her real name.
